This work acknowledges that discrimination against women in India has gradually lessened since the colonial period. It explores the reasons behind this, and who instigated the reform. The author also considers the effectiveness of such legislation in improving the status of women in India. This book examines some of the ways in which transformation trough legislation actually took place during the colonial period.
