Jan Diepersloot is an Yi Quan practitioner who has studied under Fong Ha, Han Xing Yuan, Yu Pen Xi, Cai Song Fang and Sam Tam. Jan D's books on Yi Quan, standing meditation and the entire theme of internal training are, when taken as a whole, a story of a quest. Confronted with a way of thinking alien not only to Westerners but, more and more, to anyone- even Chinese- living in the space-frame of the modern world JD decided to avoid two common traps in dealing with this new and exotic body of information: he did not become an China-clone repeating standard theology without the benefit of being raised in the culture and he did not chose the superficial explanations that believe just about anything and cloak it in pseudo-science. This is the third book in a work that has taken years. This volume records a new level of challenge and information. While he struggles with this JD he brings up his views and speculations on many aspects of standing practice. He discusses, and often with new insight, the different views of balance, the true idea of central equilibrium, the need for sphericity, issuing energy, and benefits to health. As the book progresses JD even delves into the nature of transcendence in the martial artist's life. If you have any interest in empty energy, standing practice, qi movement and the such you should read JD's books. He brings to the discussion the kind of openness with his own experiments and feelings, and theories bolstered by a lifetime of reading and thinking, that make a discussion possible. For teachers and advanced students there will be many ideas here, even uncomfortable ones which can, sometimes, be the best kind. Part 1 develops the thesis that humanity has experienced periods of female-centric social organization in its evolution that were egalitarian and harmonious in nature. The book uses the term ‘ eutopian,'from the Greek meaning “ a good place”, to describe it's essence. Part 2 describes the evolutionary processes involved in the overthrow of this female-centric paradigm by a male-centric paradigm of social organization. The term “ dystopian,” from the Greek meaning “ a bad place”, is used to describe it's essence. Part 3 develops the thesis that the violence of White Man's birth and growth in Western Europe were but a rehearsal for the aggressions he would commit in the pursuit of achieving global domination. The thesis of Part 4 is that the exponential growth of the White Man's male-centric paradigm has turned cancerous and cannibalistic on itself, thereby threatening the continued existence of the species as a whole. Part 5 concludes that as a species we are at an inflection point. We must at all costs mitigate the immanent dystopian collapse of the White Man's global paradigm by charting a course to recover the simple eutopian balance of the female-centric paradigm. Divided into four parts, this book describes the developmental stages of the internal martial artist. The first requirement lies in the constant cultivation and maintenance of proper posture and breathing habits, both in the stillness of sitting and standing and in the movement of the body. The next stage develops jin, or fajin, a unique power characteristic of internal martial arts that is examined through the fundamental, physiological, anatomical, and mechanical bases and parameters. Also important is the yi, which refers to the mental faculty tasked with controlling our movements and actions in the world, and shen, the peak or transcendent experience of awareness. This is the final volume of the Warriors of Stillness trilogy.
