Wandering Poets and Other Essays on Late Greek Literature and Philosophy
معرفی کتاب «Wandering Poets and Other Essays on Late Greek Literature and Philosophy» نوشتهٔ Alan Cameron، منتشرشده توسط نشر Oxford University Press در سال 2015. این کتاب در فرمت pdf، زبان انگلیسی ارائه شده است.
This book presents a radically revised version of some of the most important and innovative articles published by Alan Cameron in the field of late antique Greek poetry and philosophy. Much new material has been added to the account of the "Wandering Poets " from early Byzantine Egypt, and earlier judgment on their paganism is nuanced. The story of Cyrus of Panopolis and the empress Eudocia takes into count important recent work on the poetry of Eudocia. Several chapters discuss the date and identity of the influential poet Nonnus. The longest chapter reviews the celebrated story of the so-called closing of the Academy of Athens and the trip of its seven remaining philosophers to the court of the Persian king Chosroes, rejecting the fashionable current idea that they set up a new school at Harran on the Persian border. An entirely new chapter discusses a recently published papyrus containing poems of the Alexandrian epigrammatist Palladas, rejecting the editor's claim that Palladas wrote almost a century earlier than hitherto believed. A concluding chapter discusses recent claims about same-sex marriage in the Roman world. 00-b 01 Title Pages Alan Cameron Title Pages (p.i) Wandering Poets and Other Essays on Late Greek Literature and Philosophy (p.ii) (p.iii) Wandering Poets and Other Essays on Late Greek Literature and Philosophy Title Pages 02 Dedication Alan Cameron Dedication 03 (p.ix) Preface Alan Cameron (p.ix) Preface Alan Cameron (p.ix) Preface (p.ix) Preface 04 Wandering Poets Alan Cameron Wandering Poets A Literary Movement in Byzantine Egypt Alan Cameron Abstract and Keywords I Wandering Poets II Wandering Poets Wandering Poets Wandering Poets III Wandering Poets Wandering Poets Wandering Poets Wandering Poets IV Wandering Poets Wandering Poets Wandering Poets Wandering Poets Wandering Poets V Wandering Poets Wandering Poets Wandering Poets Wandering Poets Wandering Poets VI Wandering Poets Wandering Poets Wandering Poets Wandering Poets VII Wandering Poets Wandering Poets Wandering Poets Wandering Poets Wandering Poets Wandering Poets VIII Wandering Poets Wandering Poets Notes: Wandering Poets Wandering Poets Wandering Poets Wandering Poets Wandering Poets Wandering Poets Wandering Poets Wandering Poets Wandering Poets Wandering Poets Wandering Poets Wandering Poets 05 The Empress and the Poet Alan Cameron The Empress and the Poet Alan Cameron Abstract and Keywords I II Career The Empress and the Poet The Empress and the Poet III Works The Empress and the Poet IV Panegyric The Empress and the Poet V Bucolic The Empress and the Poet The Empress and the Poet The Empress and the Poet VI Nonnus The Empress and the Poet VII Pagan or Christian? A concluding chapter, never before published, reinvestigates the evidence for paganism in sixth-century Byzantium. Boldly and persuasively argued, and drawing on a profound knowledge of the period, the volume as a whole deepens our knowledge of the rich intellectual traditions of the late antique Hellenic world. -- Amazon.com 'This book presents a radically revised version of some of the most important and innovative articles published by Alan Cameron in the field of late antique Greek poetry and philosophy.
