Verity

Verity Stanford, a shy schoolteacher, discovers that her father's gambling debts, held by her neighbour, Lord Melrose, must be repaid in full. He agrees to cancel the debt if she becomes a courtesan. Will the injured officer, Major James Mitford, who is still grieving the death of his wife, help her? Or will Verity have to yield to Lord Melrose's demands and give up her much-valued freedom?
