Urban Policing in Canada : Anatomy of an Aging Craft
معرفی کتاب «Urban Policing in Canada : Anatomy of an Aging Craft» نوشتهٔ Maurice A. Martin، منتشرشده توسط نشر ACP - McGill Queen's University Press در سال 1995. این کتاب در فرمت pdf، زبان انگلیسی ارائه شده است.
In Urban Policing in Canada Maurice Martin identifies a variety of factors that exert enormous influence on contemporary police practice, including traditional organization and personnel practices, management by government, public attitudes, and the changing urban landscape. In doing so he makes a compelling case for the professionalization of Canada's urban police. Martin examines the environment of policing, a profoundly urban enterprise that has been greatly influenced by the pace and nature of urbanization. While police continue to serve the criminal justice system well, he finds that they have become less effective in carrying out the larger function of maintaining order, which must be tailored to changing urban circumstances. Policing still functions as a craft, with its hallmark in-at-the-bottom entry requirements and emphasis on skills attained through experience. In Urban Policing in Canada Martin makes a convincing case for transforming policing into a knowledge-based profession.
