Uniforms Illustrated 19 - The Boer War

London: Arms and Armour Press, 1987. -68 pgs. This book presents a photographic look at the Boer War of 1899-1902. Though contemporary photographs are the most valuable source of information about the uniforms and equipment, these must be used with caution because some are obviously posed and frequently misleadingly captioned. The British Army embarked on the campaign wearing a uniform of khaki tunic and trousers, with puttees and sun helmet, while the Boers were civilians formed into __ad hoc__ units to exploit their skill at bushcraft, marksmanship, and mobility.
