Towards a Justice with a Human Face : The First International Congress on the Law of Civil Procedure Faculty of Law — State University of Ghent 27 August 1977 – 4 September 1977

Het is voor mij een bijzonder voorrecht het verslagboek van het eerste intemationaal congres voor vergelijkend privaatrechtelijk procesrecht te Gent te mogen inleiden. Bij de voorbereiding van deze uitgave werd door het inrichtend comite beslist de algemene rapporten in hun oorspronkelijke taal te publiceren, eventueel met een engelstalige summary. Hoewel de redevoeringen op de openingsen slotzitting in de vijf congrestalen (Duits, Engels, Frans, Nederlands en Spaans) werden uitgesproken, werd ook beslist de meeste van deze teksten uniform in het Engels op te nemen. Deze uitgave ware niet mogelijk geweest zonder de vele medewerkers van het congres, die in mijn slotwoord worden genoemd. Speciaal zou ik hierbij nog will en vermelden mevrouw Helene CASMAN, die mede voor de eindredactie van het verslagboek instond en collega Roger DE CORTE, die voor de vermenigvuldiging van de rapporten ten behoeve van de congressisten zorgde. Ben laatste woord van dank gaat naar de uitgeverij KLUWER die op voortreffelijke wijze deze uitgave voorbereidde en uitvoerde. januari 1978 MARCEL STORME ## PREFACE Dans le texte qui precede il est dit pourquoi les rapports generaux sont publies dans leur langue originate et pourquoi les allocutions des seances solennelles d' ouverture et de cloture sont publiees en langue anglaise. Cette solution a paru en effet Ia plus rationnelle aux organisateurs belges, bien que les allocutions aient ete prononcees dans les cinq langues officielles du congres (le neerlandais, le fran~ais, l'allemand, I'anglais et l'espagnol) et que ce congres ait eu lieu dans un pays ou trois autres langues sont usuelles (le neerlandais, le fran~ais et I' allemand). A I' occasion de Ia parution du present ouvrage je tiens a remercier Madame H. CASMAN qui a soigne Ia redaction definitive de cette publication ainsi que le professeur R. Ce n'est pas sans fierte que j'ai l'honneur d'introduire la presente edition des actes du congres. ## PREFACE In the text mentioned above, it has been stated that the texts of the General Rapporteurs were published in their original language and the texts of the opening and closing speeches, although they were made in the five Congress languages (Dutch, French, English, German and Spanish), were published in English, as the Belgian organisers deemed this to be the most rational solution, even though the Congress took place in a country where three different languages (Dutch, French and German) are spoken there. As regards the publication of this book, I would like to thank Mrs. CAS MAN, who made the texts ready for printing, Profe~sor R. DE CORTE, who saw to the distribution of the texts during the Congress, and the KLUWER publishing company for their excellent and faultless publication. I cannot stifle a distinct feeling of pride at being privileged enough to introduce this publication of the Reports. ## VORWORT Im vorstehenden Text is erortert worden aus welchen GrUnden die Gesamtberichte in ihren originellen Sprachen veroffentlicht wurden, und die Texte der feierlichen Eroffnungssitzung und der Schluss-sitzung im Englischen, obwohl diese verfasst wurden in den fiinf Kongressprachen (Deutsch, Englisch, Franzosisch, NiederHindisch und Spanisch) und obgleich der Kongress veranstaltet wurde in einem Land wo es drei Sprachen (Niederliindisch, Franzosich und Deutsch) gibt. Hinsichtlich der Erscheinung dieses Buches mochte ich mich bei Frau H. CASMAN bedanken fiir die endgiiltige Fassung dieses Buches, bei Professor R.
