Chesterton, Agatha Christie, Dorothy L. Sayers; the author of "Winnie the Pooh", A. A. Milne, the poet Cecil Day-Lewis, as well as many other very different and original authors, many of which are completely unknown to the Russian reader. They all belonged to the same circle, communicated, made friends and turned writing detective stories into an exciting intellectual game. They created a Detective Club with a whole system of rules and rituals, composed collective opuses and tried to solve real crimes. All this frivolous, cheerful creativity took place mainly in the twenties and thirties of the 20th century - a peaceful interval between two terrible wars. Anxious, reckless, nostalgic era froze in detective stories, like a fly in amber - the reader only has to turn the page and plunge into this most interesting world.
