Boswell and produced by ATV Network Ltd St Oswald, 1970 - and a quiet stroll to a deserted Naval Station proves the beginning of a terrifying adventure. Crashing through an invisible barrier first plunges Simon and Liz into the dangerous days of 1940, then to an amazing confrontation at the South Pole some time in the future. What is the strange power shared by these teenagers? How can they slip from one time stream into another? The main theme of the series is concerned with the way mankind uses – and abuses – science and technology. It explores how the pursuit of scientific knowledge and advancement can lead to the depersonalisation of individuals and the abandonment of moral principles.[1] A secondary theme – explored in the instances where Liz and Simon encounter potential future versions of themselves – concerns the extent to which an individual can change according to the situations encountered in his or her life. . Pan Books published this novel based on children's TV series Timeslip. It was based on the first two serials, 'The Wrong End of Time' and 'The Time of the Ice Box'. The novel is a straight retelling of these stories and very little was altered to accommodate the prose format. The explanations of time travel theory throughout the book are actually clearer than they come across in the television series. The front cover of the book depicts a scene from 'The Time of the Ice Box' and shows Dr. Bukov (John Barcroft) examining the inert bodies of Liz and Simon on the ice field. The back shows the pair of time travellers, still unconscious, lying in the ice box's infirmary. The novel itself was written quickly to accommodate the very short lead-time given by the publishers Pan Books. There is no actual author credit on the cover or inside the book but the adaptation of Bruce Stewart's scripts fell to Ruth Boswell's husband, James.
