The third term then gives the exchange term required by the Pauli principle. ## THE EFFECTIVE INTERACTION Although calculations have beeneffected using a realistic phenomenological K-matrix model 18) for head-on collisions of 12C + 12C, these calculations are technically complicated, and have neither been extended to collisions at finite impact parameters nor to collisions of heavier ions.
