The Use of Guitar in Music Therapy

An examination of the guitarâe(tm)s prominent place within the field of music therapy. After an introduction to historical and functional information about the instrument, guidelines are given on how to play the guitar with proficiency and versatility, and how to use guitar-playing in therapy. In addition to reviewing guitar references, creative and innovative techniques are provided, illustrating how adaptable and effective the guitar can be. Examples are given for how to accompany songs and improvisations, and for helping clients with varying physical and cognitive abilities play the guitar themselves.
