Description:This book provides information for graduate clinicians on aphasia, from theories to methodology of aphasia research to functional treatment approaches.
Purpose:The purpose is to discuss the need for empirical research to support treatment approaches for aphasia. The book, a collection of articles from Euroconference 2000, attempts to show how the field is managing this need. This is a much needed and worthy objective, which has clearly been met by the authors.
Audience:According to the authors, this book is intended for all persons either working with, or studying about, persons with aphasia.
Features:Section one reviews basic neuroscience information, and section two then moves right into research on specific treatment approaches. The book continues with specific treatment and disorder areas, then moves into cognitive domains to a degree, and concludes with articles on methodology of aphasia therapy research. The layout and organization of the text makes it easy to use as a reference.
Assessment:Although no one area is covered extensively in this book, the review from this conference clearly provides a strong resource for information regarding aphasia intervention and its research as well as a wealth of references on this topic.
