معرفی کتاب «فضای عمومی در جوامع مسلمان (سری سونی در مطالعات خاورمیانه)» (با عنوان لاتین The Public Sphere in Muslim Societies (Suny Series in Near Eastern Studies) (Suny Near Eastern Studies)) نوشتهٔ Miriam Hoexter; Shmuel Noah Eisenstadt; Nehemia Levtzion، منتشرشده توسط نشر Albany : State University Of New York Press در سال 2002. این کتاب در فرمت pdf، زبان انگلیسی ارائه شده است.

Challenging conventional assumptions, the contributors to this interdisciplinary volume argue that premodern Muslim societies had diverse and changing varieties of public spheres, constructed according to premises different from those of Western societies. The public sphere, conceptualized as a separate and autonomous sphere between the official and private, is used to shed new light on familiar topics in Islamic history, such as the role of the shari`a (Islamic religious law), the `ulama' (Islamic scholars), schools of law, Sufi brotherhoods, the Islamic endowment institution, and the relationship between power and culture, rulers and community, from the ninth to twentieth centuries. Annotation Eight papers developed during a two-year workshop at the Van Leer Jerusalem Institute were presented in finished form at an October 1997 international conference held there. Social scientists, historians, and area scholars argue that traditional, pre-modern Muslim society had diverse and changing varieties of public spheres, the manifestations of which have been as far-ranging as the ideas and expression of Islamic civilization itself.
