This book examines a variety of the political aspects of translation from Eusebius' Greek version of Virgil's Ecologue 4 to the transfger of Roman tragedy into Shakespeare's Titus Andronicus. In doing so it demonstrates a detailed knowledge of the cultures, historical contexts and languages of the source and target texts and offers new insights into a number of different European cultures and language pairs. The essays reflect a strong appreciation of the political forces that have influence culture, ideology, and translation.
