Excerpt from The Manuscripts of the Duke of Hamilton, K. TThe documents referred to in this Report form only a portion, and that, perhaps, the least interesting portion of the large and valuable col lection of papers in Hamilton Palace. The historical treasures preserved there were so far made known in 1847 by a descriptive catalogue of them, which in that year was printed by the Maitland Club, as Vol. IV., Part I., of their Miscellany. The catalogue in question became the property of Mr. George Chalmers author of Caledonia, and at the sale of his library, after his death, it was purchased on behalf of the Maitland Club. Their print of it was edited by Mr. Joseph Robertson, then editor of the Glasgow Constitutional.
