The Making Of The Curriculum: Collected Essays (Studies in Curriculum History)
معرفی کتاب «The Making Of The Curriculum: Collected Essays (Studies in Curriculum History)» نوشتهٔ Ivor F. Goodson; introduction by William F. Pinar، منتشرشده توسط نشر Routledge در سال 1995. این کتاب در فرمت pdf، زبان انگلیسی ارائه شده است.
The first edition of The Making of Curriculum was published in 1988 and reviewers hailed it as a seminal work in the field. In that work Goodson explored a number of aspects of the so-called traditional subjects and described the way they develop over time to a point where they can be promoted as 'academic' disciplines. He showed that the claim to be academic was in fact the result of a substantial political contest covering a century or more. The traditional subject was, in short, invented. The first edition of this book provided a series of challenging insights for those desiring to make sense of the current debate over schooling. In this new and extended second edition, Bill Pinar adds an illuminating introduction and Goodson brings his argument up-to-date with a discussion of the National Curriculum - 'a contemporary initiative in the making of curriculum.' "This is the second edition of a book first published in 1988 in which Ivor Goodson explores a number of aspects of the 'invention' and promotion of the so-called traditional subjects. He describes the way the subjects develop over time to a point where they can be presented and promoted as 'academic' disciplines. He shows that the claim to be academic is in fact the result of a substantial political contest covering a century or more. The traditional subject is, in short, invented. Once we look at the political process of inventing, promoting and sustaining the school subject a very different perspective to that conventionally employed for understanding the school curriculum emerges. The 'traditional subjects' turn out to be a kind of politician's 'Piltdown man' and, once this is grasped, the existing discourse over the secondary school curriculum is seen in a very different light. By furthering our understanding of the history and politics of curriculum, this book provides a series of challenging insights for those concerned to make sense over the current debate over schooling. The second edition is brought up to date by Goodson considering the impact of the National Curriculum, and by Bill Pinar writing an introduction which places Goodson's work in a North American context."--Jacket Book Cover......Page 1 Title......Page 4 Contents......Page 5 Acknowledgements......Page 9 Foreword......Page 12 Preface to the Second Edition......Page 17 An Introduction to the Second Edition......Page 20 Investigating State Schooling: The Search for Sources......Page 26 Studying Curriculum......Page 35 Etymologies, Epistemologies and the Emergence of Curriculum: A Speculative Essay......Page 48 History of Education in England: Conflicting Paradigms......Page 64 Investigating State Schooling: Exploring New Methods......Page 82 Teachers' Life Histories and Studies of Curriculum and Schooling......Page 94 History, Context and Qualitative Methods......Page 116 Defining a Subject for the Comprehensive School......Page 140 The Micropolitics of Curricula Change: European Studies......Page 167 Becoming a School Subject......Page 183 The Making of Curriculum......Page 207 Conclusions, Complexities and Contemporary Initiatives in the Making of Curriculum: Towards a National Curriculum......Page 220 Bibliography......Page 230 Index......Page 239 Social Sciences Book Cover 1 Title 4 Contents 5 Acknowledgements 9 Foreword 12 Preface to the Second Edition 17 An Introduction to the Second Edition 20 Investigating State Schooling: The Search for Sources 26 Studying Curriculum 35 Etymologies, Epistemologies and the Emergence of Curriculum: A Speculative Essay 48 History of Education in England: Conflicting Paradigms 64 Investigating State Schooling: Exploring New Methods 82 Teachers' Life Histories and Studies of Curriculum and Schooling 94 History, Context and Qualitative Methods 116 Defining a Subject for the Comprehensive School 140 The Micropolitics of Curricula Change: European Studies 167 Becoming a School Subject 183 The Making of Curriculum 207 Conclusions, Complexities and Contemporary Initiatives in the Making of Curriculum: Towards a National Curriculum 220 Bibliography 230 Index 239 Annotation This Is A New, Updated Version Of Ivor Goodson's Earlier Work Which Explores A Number Of Aspects Of The Invention And Promotion Of So-called Traditional Subjects.
