The Last Song

Volume two of the excellent study guide Quartet published by The Japan Times is a comprehensive learning resource for mid-to-high intermediate Japanese students. It offers a well-balanced study experience of the four language skills – reading, writing, listening, and speaking – by offering expressions, grammatical structures, and other strategies required to properly communicate at the intermediate level. This volume continues from the first book with six new lessons (7-12) consisting of 65 grammatical patterns and expressions, 330 kanji, and approximately 900 new words. The information presented in volume one is built on in the same structure as the first book, taking you from around N3 level to an equivalent of N2. There are similar easy-to-understand English explanations of grammatical patterns introduced in the two readings that start each chapter. The book also gives you opportunities to write compositions based on the model texts and to practice conversations using model dialogues. There is also a supplementary book in the back that contains vocabulary and kanji lists and sample sentences using them. On top of that, there is a link to download 180 minutes of audio files to help you with your listening.
