This annotated bibliography provides a comprehensive survey of writings about the Holocaust. The authors present an overview of topics including Christian anti-judentum, anti-semitism, the moral and religious response to the Nazi persecution and genocide of the Jews, and post-World War II responses to the Holocaust as they have appeared in the thousands of books and articles published on the Holocaust. The bibliography is divided into four topics with introductory comments that frame the theories put forward in the materials cited. A broad array of past and recent scholarship from a variety of venues and points of view are represented. An annotated bibliography of books and articles (published in English) dealing with the role of Christianity in regard to the Holocaust. The work is divided into four sections, with a brief introduction for each section. Ch. 1 (pp. 1-41), "Christian Anti-Judentum", deals with Christian antisemitism from the New Testament up to the 19th century. Ch. 2 (pp. 43-93), "From Anti-Judentum to Anti-Semitism", covers the period of the Enlightenment up to the Nazi seizure of power. Ch. 3 (pp. 95-177), "The Moral and Religious Response to the Nazi Persecution and Genocide of the Jews", deals with the role of Christians and of the Churches during the Nazi period. Ch. 4 (pp. 179-301), "Post World War II Responses to the Holocaust", examines the way Jews and Christians have assessed the responsibility of Christianity for bringing about the Holocaust, and ways in which the "teaching of contempt" can be eliminated from Church teachings and dogma.
