The Einstein Intersection is set in the distant future,when the planet suffers from a collapse intechnology and widespread genetic mutancy. Butmuch of the tone and attitude of the novel isreminiscent of stories of the Wild West. (Ace, it isworth noting, also published cowboy fiction duringthe 1950s and 1960s.) Lobey works herding dragons,but they might as well be cattle. His enemy KidDeath is at least partly based on the real life Westernvillain Billy the Kid.
