The Digital Multitude

Article published in the «Cinema Journal» — 2010 — Vol. 49 — No. 4 (Summer) — pp. 90-110. This article analyzes computer-generated swarms, armies, armadas, and hordes in contemporary cinema to show how they spatialize time, dramatize historical change, and interrogate the idea that there is great power in numbers - even as they explore (in a spectacular fashion) the relationship between the individual and the collective.
