The caliphate of Banu Umayyah (The First Phase), is the best encyclopedia that is originally taken from Al-Bidayah wan-Nihayah , written by Ibn Katheer. The book elaborates the story of all the empires of the Umayyad Dynasty ( who ruled from 661–750 - 41-132 AH, the first Muslim dynasty). The book reflects on their intellectual thoughts, their way of ruling, their services for Islam and the rise and fall of Umayyads and much more. The Umayyad Caliphate was the second of the four major Islamic caliphates established after Prophet Muhammad. Their capital was Damascus and then Constantinople. This book also deals with the Umayyad’s fight with the Abbasid dynasty, who succeeded them. Hafiz ‘Imadud Din Isma’il ibn ‘Umar ibn Kathir (rahimahullah) was a Shafi’i Scholar and renowned Mufassir (exegete). Born in Busra Sham, he lived approximately in 700/701-774 A.H (1300-1372 CE). He spent many years in the company of his esteemed teacher, ‘Allamah Abu Hajjaj Al Mizzi (rahimahullah) and married his daughter.Hafiz Ibn Kathir taught in many institutions including the Darul Hadith Al Ashrafiyyah in Damascus.
