joseph Conrad Was Born JÃ3zef Teodor Konrad Nalecz Korzeniowski In 1857 In Russian-occupied Poland. He Wrote the Arrow Of Gold In 1917 And 1918 During The Final Years Of World War I When He Was Suffering From A Serious Depression Owing To His Poor Health And Inability To Contribute To The War Effort. Like Many Of Conrad's Novels, the Arrow Of Gold Is Based On An Embellished Version Of The Author's Own Experiences.
