The Alawis of Syria: War, Faith and Politics in the Levant (Urban Conflicts, Divided Societies)

Throughout the turbulent history of the Levant the 'Alawis - a secretive, resilient and ancient Muslim sect - have aroused suspicion and animosity, including accusations of religious heresy.
