The Alabama catalog : Historic American Buildings Survey : a guide to the early architecture of the state

This broad panorama of Alabama architecture provides for the first time in published form the rich resources of the Alabama collections--among the largest and most comprehensive of any state's--in the Historic American Buildings Survey (HABS) of the Library of Congress. Robert Gamble's historical primer introducing the catalog traces the architectural currents that have surfaced in Alabama over the years to generate both the vigorous local adaptation of characteristic folk houses and the landmark sophistication of structures epitomizing the fashionable tastes of their day. More than 200 photographs, supplemented by 100 sketches and plans, provide the general reader and the design professional with images of Alabama architecture in all its variation, from the territorial era through the early decades of the twentieth century.
