معرفی کتاب «کتاب درسی ارزیابی و مدیریت خشونت» (با عنوان لاتین Textbook of Violence Assessment and Management) نوشتهٔ Robert I. Simon, Kenneth Tardiff, Kenneth Tardiff، منتشرشده توسط نشر American Psychiatric Publishing در سال 2008. این کتاب در فرمت pdf، زبان انگلیسی ارائه شده است.

Because violence is both endemic to our society and epidemic in our age, violence assessment is as critical as it is commonplace for the front-line clinician. Fortunately, the editors of the Textbook of Violence Assessment and Management have assembled an impressive roster of distinguished contributors who, in 28 informative chapters, combine evidence-based medicine with expert opinion to create the first comprehensive textbook on assessing the potentially violent patient and managing the patient who becomes violent. Dr. Simon and Dr. Tardiff, themselves at the forefront of forensic psychiatry, lend the breadth and depth of their experience to this volume, which addresses the risk of violence across the full spectrum of psychopathology, clinical settings, and demographics. Crucial topics such as expert testimony, intimate partner violence, school and workplace violence, the duty to warn potential victims of patients, and the use of seclusion and restraint receive special emphasis. The book s scope makes it useful as both a textbook and a reference for clinicians. Mental health professionals will find this book to be timely and necessary for their patients, but also for the families and communities who rely on their professional judgment.

Evaluating and treating patients with violent ideations and behaviors can be frustrating, anxiety-provoking, and even dangerous, as errors in judgment can lead to disastrous consequences. Fortunately, there is the Textbook of Violence Assessment and Management, the first and only comprehensive textbook on assessing the potentially violent patient for mental health clinicians on the front lines of patient care.

Uniquely qualified to produce this comprehensive volume, the editors have assembled a distinguished roster of contributors who, in 28 practical chapters, combine evidence-based medicine with expert opinion to address the topic of patient violence in all its diversity of presentation and expression. Dr. Simon is Director of the Program in Psychiatry and Law at Georgetown University School of Medicine, as well as the author or co-author of more than two dozen books. Dr. Tardiff, Professor of Psychiatry and Public Health at the Payne Whitney Clinic, The New York Hospital -- Cornell Medical Center, is the author of The Concise Guide to Assessment and Management of Violent Patients, an introduction to aggression management now in its second edition.

Violence is both endemic to our society and epidemic in our age. Skilled assessment and management of violence is therefore critical for mental health professionals involved in patient care. The Textbook of Violence Assessment and Management includes many features designed to instruct and support these clinicians. For example: • It is the first comprehensive textbook to take the mental health professional from evaluation and assessment to treatment and management of patients who are or may become violent. • The 28 chapters address the diversity of clinical settings, patient demographics, psychopathology and treatment modalities, making this work useful as both a textbook and a reference that clinicians can consult as needed for particular cases.• End-of-chapter "Key Points" highlight the most important concepts and conclusions, allowing students to review and consolidate their learning and practicing professionals to locate critical information quickly.• Clinical case examples abound, providing rich and nuanced perspectives on patient behavior, evaluation and management.• The textbook includes a separate chapter on evaluating patients from different cultures, a competency that becomes more crucial as patient populations become more diverse.

Increasing numbers of veterans are diagnosed with PTSD and traumatic brain injury. Campus tragedies such as Virginia Tech are fresh in our collective memory. This text is both timely and necessary -- not just for mental health professionals and their patients, but for the families and communities whose safety depends upon competent professional judgment.

Reviewer:Steven T. Herron, MD(University of Arizona Health Sciences Center)
Description:Compiled to condense much of the known information on the assessment and management of violent individuals with mental health issues, this book addresses structured evaluation through the clinical treatment of this population.
Purpose:Because violence has "roots and causes (that) are many and complex," this book's focus is the education of mental health providers, combining "evidence-based medicine with expert opinion.
Audience:Provided as a resource for those treating, assessing, and working with people who have psychiatric disorders combined with a history of violence, the book is meant to be a tool for clinicians on the front line evaluating and treating these individuals.
Features:Divided into seven sections, from assessment principles to special topics in the field, this book addresses both general and detailed aspects of evaluating and treating mentally ill and violent individuals. Chapters suggesting management techniques for various clinical settings, as well as those specifically mentioning pharmacological and psychotherapeutic interventions are quite useful, and numerous case examples highlight salient features. Each chapter concludes with a section titled "Key Points" and an extensive list of current references.
Assessment:Dr. Simon and his colleagues continue to produce clinically useful, brief books, and this one is no exception. The list of contributing authors is impressive, and their combined experience represents many years and, undoubtedly, thousands of encounters with patients and evaluations. What the book lacks stylistically, it more than makes up for in valuable information. The chapters addressing workplace violence and school violence offer readers a condensed version of the literature regarding these problems, which are sadly becoming increasingly common for forensic and general psychiatrists. This is a worthy contribution to the field.
