this Syllabus Provides A Wide Overview Of The Latest Developments In Diagnostic Work And Intervention In Diseases Of The Abdomen And Pelvis. In Addition To Conventional Diagnostic Radiology, Special Procedures Such As Us, Ct, Mri, Nuclear Medicine And Interventional Techniques Are Discussed. doody Review Services reviewer: bennie A. Skinner, Md(medical College Of Virginia At Virginia Commonwealth University) description: this Book Is A Condensed Form Of The Topics Discussed In The International Diagnostic Course In Davos. It Is Unique In That It Includes A Discussion Of 20 Topics Pertaining Only To Diseases Of The Abdomen And Pelvis And The Use Of The All The Latest Advances In All Areas Of Diagnostic Imaging In The These Selected Topics. The Book Is Broken Into Mini-chapters That Are A Few Pages Long From The Seminars Given By Prominent Authors In The Field Of Abdominal And Pelvic Imaging. purpose: the Stated Purpose Of The Syllabus Is To Allow The Person Attending The Course To Fully Concentrate On The Lectures And Participate In The Discussions Without The Worry Of Taking Notes. It Is A Condensed Version Of The 20 Topics Covered During The Conference. It Also Has The Purpose Of Providing A Thorough Overview Of The Radiographic Approach To Diseases Of The Abdomen And Pelvis With Special Emphasis On The Latest Developments In Diagnosis And Intervention. It Is Always Greatly Appreciated By Anyone Attending A Conference When They Can Relax And Focus On The Verbal Word Without Having To Worry With Constant Note Taking. Without Having Attended The Conference, I Cannot Say If The Information Discussed Was Accurately And Adequately Covered In These Writings. However, Imaging Of Disease Processes And The Appearance Of Disease In Multiple Modalities Are Discussed By The Contributors In Each Mini-chapter . There Is A Section At The Beginning Of The Book That Has Speculation On The Future Of Magnetic Resonance Imaging And Ultrasound Of The Abdomen As Well As Pet Scanning. audience: the Authors State In The Preface That The Course And Syllabus Are For The Young Radiologist In Training And For Experienced Radiologists Wishing To Be Updated On The Latest Developments In The Field. In My Opinion The Syllabus Is Easy To Read And Follow, And Should Be Appropriate For Any Level Of Radiologist. There Do Not Appear To Be Any Large Or Significant Omissions. Obviously A Syllabus Of This Size Cannot Cover Every Topic In Abdominal Imaging In Detail, But The Topics Covered Appear To Have Been Covered Thoroughly By Well Recognized Experts In The Field. features: the Seminars Presented Cover The Great Majority Of Diseases Affecting The Abdomen And Pelvis And The Major Topics Discussed In These Seminars Are Well Covered. Some Seminars Have More Illustrations Than Others, But The Illustrations Are Of High Quality And Include Examples In All Major Imaging Modalities Where Appropriate. The Arrows Accurately And Unobtrusively Point Out The Findings Of Interest In Each Figure. Comments Are Made About How One Imaging Modality Relates To Another In A Specific Disease Process And Also About Implications Of One Modality Versus Another In The Future Of Imaging. I Feel The Best Feature Is The Quality Of The Contributors And The Information They Provide To The Reader Of This Syllabus. The Syllabus Is Divided Into Seminars Based On A Topic Approach And Easy To Follow. I Feel The Areas Discussed Are Well-covered, But This Is Not A Reference Text For Minute Details. Where Appropriate, Classification Schemes Have Been Given (e.g., The Section On Liver Trauma Includes A Nice Table With The Latest Classification In Detail). Near The Beginning A Film Reading Panel Quiz Is Given, But No Answer Page Is Included. Presumably The Answers Lie Within The Text. Another Good Feature Of The Text Is The Inclusion Of Interventional Procedures With The Disease Processes. Often Many Books Will Not Discuss Intervention To Any Great Detail As Some Have Moved Toward A Separation In Imaging And Therapy. It Is Appreciated Here, Since Most General Radiologists Still Do Both The Imaging And The Intervention. assessment: i Am Not Aware Of Other Syllabi Such As This Dedicated To The Field Of Abdominal And Pelvic Imaging For Comparison. This Is An Excellent Read For Residents Preparing For The Board And For A Review Of The Most Modern Application Of Imaging Of Diseases Of The Abdomen And Pelvis For More Advanced Imagers. This Is The 31st International Diagnostic Course In The Davos Syllabus In Disease Of The Abdomen And Pelvis, And Certainly Includes Information Not Present In The Prior Syllabus -- And This One Will Not Include Significant Knowledge Seen In The Next.
