Surface forces and surfactant systems : Papers presented at the 9. Scandinavian symposium on surface chemistry, Royal Institute of Technology, Stockholm 1986

This volume of Progress in Colloid and Polymer Science contains papers presented at the 9th Scandinavian Symposium on Surface Chemistry, which was held at The Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm, Sweden, from June 4-6, 1986. Also included are a few papers primarily related to the EUCHEM conference "Molecular Interactions Between Surfaces" held in SaltsjObaden, close to Stockholm, from June 1-4, 1986. The symposium was attended by 140 scientists from Scandinavia and abroad, of which about 35 represented the industrial sector. The program included five plenary lectures, 23 oral presentations and 28 posters. The main topics of the symposium were: interaction between surfaces, adsorption of proteins, lipids and phase equilibria, micelles and microemulsions and colloidal stability. Theoretical as well as applied aspects were covered. The session on lipids and phase equilibria was held in honour of Dr. Krister Fontell on his retirement from active duty as a senior research scientist at the Chemical Centre in Lund, Sweden. Similarly, the session on micelles and microemulsions was held to honour Professor Ingvar Danielsson on his retirement from the chair of physical chemistry at Abo Akademi in Finland. Much of the current research on surfactant and lipid systems in Sweden and Finland can be traced back to the pioneering work of Professor Per Ekwall. Born in 1895, Prof. Ekwall is still active and was even a very active participant in the 9th Scandinavian Symposium.
