Subaltern Studies: Writings on South Asian History and Society, Vol. 8: Essays in Honour of Ranajit Guha (v. 8)

The essays in Subaltern Studies VIII take up themes from the writings of Ranajit Guha. They link subaltern experience and mentality in India with colonial knowledge and power as well as with the culture and politics of the country's elite population. This first volume in the "Subaltern Studies" series contains essays and discussion pieces designed to promote a systematic and detailed discussion of subaltern themes in the field of South East Asian studies and research. The essays in this volume describe not only the historical practices of the dominated, but also demonstrates the centrality of the subaltern perspective in understanding dominant formations and representations.
