Years of law practice followed and then a judgeship before Wallace was elected governor of Alabama. Woven into this narrative is Wallace’s romance with Lurleen Burns, who became his wife and later was elected governor. After Lurleen’s tragic death Wallace married Cornelia Folsom Snively, niece of “Big Jim” Folsom. And in 1972, in Laurel, Maryland, came the terrible day when Arthur Bremer fired the shots that almost killed Wallace and left him paralyzed from the waist down.
