Signs, Mind, and Reality: A theory of language as the folk model of the world (Advances in Consciousness Research)
معرفی کتاب «Signs, Mind, and Reality: A theory of language as the folk model of the world (Advances in Consciousness Research)» نوشتهٔ Sebastian Shaumyan، منتشرشده توسط نشر John Benjamins Publishing Company در سال 2006. این کتاب در 3 صفحه، فرمت pdf، زبان انگلیسی ارائه شده است.
The book presents a new science of semiotic linguistics. The goal of semiotic linguistics is to discover what characterizes language as an intermediary between the mind and reality so that language creates the picture of reality we perceive. The cornerstone of semiotic linguistics is the discovery and resolution of language antinomies -contradictions between two apparently reasonable principles or laws. Language antinomies constitute the essence of language, and hence must be studied from both linguistic and philosophical points of view. The basic language antinomy which underlies all other antinomies is the antinomy between meaning and information. Both generative and classical linguistic theories are unaware of the need to distinguish between meaning and information. By confounding these notions they are unable to discover language antinomies and confine their research to naturalistic description of superficial language phenomena rather than the quest for the essence of language.(Series A) As The Culmination Of Many Years Of Research, I Have Developed Semiotic Linguistics, A New Linguistic Discipline, Which I Present In This Book. The Domain Of Semiotic Linguistics Is Human Language Conceived Of As A Folk Model Of The World. By A Folk Model Of The World We Mean That Every Language Is A Particular Conventionalized Form Of The Representation Of The World Imposed On All The Members Of A Language Community By The Social Need To Have A Common Instrument Of Communication. The Folk Model Of The World Is In Fact A Collective Philosophy Unique To Each Language. As Intermediaries Between Man's Thought And The World, Languages Function As Different Forms Of The Perception Of The World By Man's Thought, Every Language Is Both A Communicative And Cognitive Form Of Thought. Semiotic Linguistics Is Neither A Philosophy Of Language Nor A New Series Of General Discussions Of The Relation Of Language To Thought. Semiotic Linguistics Is A Technical Inquiry Into The Intrinsic Mechanism Of Language As Opposed To Thought. The Technical Question Central To Semiotic Linguistics Is This: What Are The Laws Of The Intrinsic Mechanism Of Language As An Intermediary Between Man's Thought And The World? Ch. 1. The Science Of Semiotic Linguistics -- Ch. 2. Language As A Phenomenon Of The Social Mind -- Ch. 3. The Linguistic Sign -- Ch. 4. The Anomalies Of Categorization And The Principle Of Differences -- Ch. 5. Linguistic Structure -- Ch. 6. The Theory Of Superposition -- Ch. 7. Methodological Interlude -- Ch. 8. The Word And Word Classes -- Ch. 9. Syntax As The Theory Of Word Combinations -- Ch. 10. The Theory Of The Sentence -- Ch. 11. Genotype Categorical Calculus -- Ch. 12. Semiotic Linguistics And Cognitive Grammar. Sebastian Shaumyan. Includes Bibliographical References (p. [269]-277) And Indexes. 'This cutting-edge collection of articles provides the first organised reflection on the language of films and television series across British, American and Italian cultures. The volume suggests new directions for research and applications, and offers a variety of methodologies and perspectives on the complexities of''telecinematic''discourse – a hitherto virtually unexplored area of investigation in linguistics. The papers share a common vision of the big and small screen: the belief that the discourses of film and television offer a re-presentation of our world. As such, telecinematic texts reorganise and recreate language (together with time and space) in their own way and with respect to specific socio-cultural conventions and media logic. The volume provides a multifaceted, yet coherent insight into the diegetic – as it revolves around narrative – as opposed to mimetic – as referring to other non-narrative and non-fictional genres – discourses of fictional media. The collection will be of interest to researchers, tutors and students in pragmatics, stylistics, discourse analysis, corpus linguistics, communication studies and related fields.'
