THE Thirteenth Easter School owed much of its success to those who presented papers and those who participated in the discussions which followed. Indeed, the response to invitations to present papers was sufficiently encouraging that, in order to allow sufficient time for discussion on the last day of the Symposium, Dr. Haynes' paper was withdrawn from the programme, but is published in the Proceedings without discussion. We were delighted that Professor Dainton, the new Vice-Chancellor of the University of Nottingham, was able to welcome delegates and to open the Conference.
