Royalty payments are once again becoming a hot button issue for authors and artists, as well as other holders of copyright or related rights, because they fail to receive adequate compensation for the use of their work on the internet. Gerade für Urheber und Künstler, jedoch auch für Verwerter wie Tonträgerhersteller, ist es höchst problematisch, dass sie bisher meist keine adäquate Vergütung für Internetnutzungen erhalten. Sogar die Europäische Kommission hat das Thema in ihrer jüngsten Mitteilung aufgegriffen. Der Band des ALAI-Kongresses, der 2015 in Bonn stattfand, untersucht die unterschiedlichen Gründe und Lösungsmöglichkeiten dafür - sei es aufgrund von ausschließlichen Rechten oder auch von Vergütungsansprüchen, wie sie erstmalig in Deutschland für die Privatkopie eingeführt wurden.
