Reliability Engineering : Theory and Practice

معرفی کتاب «Reliability Engineering : Theory and Practice» نوشتهٔ Alessandro Birolini (auth.)

This book shows how to build in, evaluate, and demonstrate reliability & availability of components, equipment, systems. It presents the state-of-the-art of reliability engineering, both in theory and practice, and is based on the author's 30 years experience in this field, half in industry and half as Professor of Reliability Engineering at the ETH, Zurich. The structure of the book allows rapid access to practical results. Besides extensions to cost models and approximate expressions, new in this edition are investigations on common cause failures, phased-mission systems, availability demonstration and estimation, confidence limits at system level, trend tests for early failures or wearout, as well as a review of maintenance strategies, an introduction to Petri nets and dynamic FTA, and a set of problems for home-work. Methods and tools are given in a way that they can be tailored to cover different reliability requirement levels and be used for safety analysis as well. This book is a textbook establishing a link between theory and practice, with a large number of tables, figures, and examples to support the practical aspects. 27 Required function (mission profile) • Set up the reliability block diagram FMEA where (RBD), by performing a redundancy appears Eliminate reliability weaknesses • Determine the component stresses • component/material selection • Compute the failure rate Ai of each • derating component • screening • Compute R(t) at the assembly level • redundancy • Check the fulfillment of reliability design rules • Perform a preliminary design review no yes Go to the next assembly or to the next integration level Figure 2. 1 Reliability analysis procedure at assembly level Taking account of the above considerations, Fig. 2. 1 shows the reliability analysis procedure used in practical applications at assembly level. The proce dure of Fig. 2. 1 is based on the part stress method discussed in Section 2. 2. 4 (see Section 2. 2. 7 for the part count method). Also included are a failure modes and effect analysis (FMEA/FMECA), to check the validity of the assumed failure modes, and a verification of the adherence to design guidelines for relia bility in a preliminary design review (Section 5. 1, Appendices A3. 3. 5 & A4). Verification of the assumed failure modes is mandatory where redundancy appears, in particular because of the series element in the reliability block diagram (see for instance Example 2. 6, Sections 2. 3. 6 for elements with more than one failure mode & 6. 8. 7 for common cause failures, and Figs. 2. 8- 2. 9 & 6. 17- 6. "This book shows how to build in, evaluate, and demonstrate reliability and availability of components, equipment, systems. It presents the state-of-the-art of reliability engineering, both in theory and practice, and is based on the author's more than 30 years experience in this field, half in industry and half as Professor of Reliability Engineering at the ETH, Zurich. The structure of the book allows rapid access to practical results. This final edition extend and replace all previous editions. New are, in particular, a strategy to mitigate incomplete coverage, a comprehensive introduction to human reliability with design guidelines and new models, and a refinement of reliability allocation, design guidelines for maintainability, and concepts related to regenerative stochastic processes. The set of problems for homework has been extended. Methods & tools are given in a way that they can be tailored to cover different reliability requirement levels and be used for safety analysis. Because of the Appendices A6 - A8, the book is also self contained from a mathematical point of view, and can be used as a text book or as a desktop reference, with a large number of tables (60), figures (190), and examples (210 of which 70 as problems for homework) to support the practical aspects" -- Provided by publisher Front Matter....Pages i-xvii Basic Concepts, Quality and Reliability Assurance of Complex Equipment and Systems....Pages 1-24 Reliability Analysis During the Design Phase (Nonrepairable Elements up to System Failure)....Pages 25-80 Qualification Tests for Components and Assemblies....Pages 81-111 Maintainability Analysis....Pages 112-143 Design Guidelines for Reliability, Maintainability, and Software Quality....Pages 144-166 Reliability and Availability of Repairable Systems....Pages 167-290 Statistical Quality Control & Reliability Tests....Pages 291-348 Quality and Reliability Assurance During the Production Phase (Basic Considerations)....Pages 349-364 Annexes....Pages 365-573 Back Matter....Pages 574-610 Presenting a solid overview of reliability engineering, this volume enables readers to build and evaluate the reliability of various components, equipment and systems.
