Focusing on a program (''Homebuilders'') that has attracted national attention, this book develops implications for family-centered curricula in such areas as social policy, direct practice, program design/management, practice research, theory and prevention. The Homebuilders program, the subject of this volume, begun in 1974 in Tacoma, Washington, has been successfully replicated in a number of other states. Its name has become synonymous with the intensive family preservation services that have recently and rapidly emerged in the US. These services are designed to aid families with multiple problems who are at risk of separation and of having their children placed in foster care.
