Bücher mit rassistischen und antisemitischen Inhalten erschienen während der Weimarer Republik nicht nur in dafür einschlägigen Verlagen. Die Autorin untersucht das verlegerische Umfeld und den Markt solcher Publikationen bei Georg Westermann, Georg Fischer und Vandenhoeck & Ruprecht. Es zeigt sich, dass solche Inhalte im konservativ-bürgerlichen Milieu der im Kaiserreich sozialisierten Verleger anschlussfähig waren. Wirtschaftlichen Erfolg hatten diese Bücher jedoch kaum. Examines the publishing environment and the marketing of books containing racist or antisemitic material during the Weimar period. Among the publishing houses examined are Georg Westermann Verlag, Gustav Fischer Verlag, and Vandenhoeck & Ruprecht, all of them respectable firms. Works published by them included major scientific and ideological debates, as well as social, economic, and natural sciences, pedagogics, and theology. Racial and antisemitic tendencies were present in all of these fields. States that most writers of racist and antisemitic publications were failed researchers in the field of mythology or intellectuals who were situated on the periphery of the scholarly world. Nevertheless, through publications in ideologically neutral publishing houses, racism and antisemitism seeped into the scholarly disciplines and found substantial and economic support. Along with social and cultural fluctuations during the Weimar period, racial and antisemitic coding was spread through partial revitalization of old cultural coding from the period of Imperial Germany.
