Este no es un libro sobre radiología traumatológica. Se trata de un libro diseñado únicamente para ayudar a la evaluación precisa de las radiografías simples realizadas en un servicio de urgencias. Desde la segunda edición publicada en 2005 hemos recogido las sugerencias recibidas en nuestros numerosos cursos y las de aquellos que trabajan en nuestros servicios de urgencias. Además, somos conscientes de las necesidades relacionadas con la radiografía simple de los actuales radiólogos en formación. En consecuencia, hemos hecho un nuevo énfasis en las ilustraciones sobre la anatomía esquelética normal mediante la utilización de gráficos precisos y clarificadores. Hemos separado las lesiones que surgen en la práctica diaria de aquellas que se ven con mucha menor frecuencia. Y, principalmente, nos hemos ajustado a nuestro objetivo principal, que es el de ayudar a aquellos que interpretan radiografías en el servicio de urgencias, quienes se plantean la siguiente cuestión: «A primera vista las imágenes me parecen normales, pero ¿cómo debería valorarlas de una manera lógica y sistemática?».
