PREFACEOne of the grandest themes and the most important subjects spoken of inholy writ is the fulfillment of the covenant, in the latter days, which theEternal Father has made to the house of Israel. This covenant is repeatedlyreferred to throughout holy writ. The Bible prophets, the Book of Mormonprophets, as well as the modern prophets, have prophesied concerning thisgreat event. But what does this covenant consist of and what do we have inholy writ by which we might know when it will be fulfilled? Upon this subjectwe have the following from the pen of the Prophet Joseph Smith:The time has at last arrived when the God of Abraham, of Isaac, andof Jacob, has set his hand again the second time to recover the remnantsof his people, which have been left from Assyria, and from Egypt, andfrom Pathros, and from Cush, and from Elam, and from Shinar, and fromHamath, and from the islands of the sea, and with them to bring in thefulness of the Gentiles, and establish that covenant with them, whichwas promised when their sins should be taken away. This covenant hasnever been established with the house of Israel, nor with the house ofJudah, for it requires two parties to make a covenant, and those twoparties must be agreed, or no covenant can be made.
