معرفی کتاب «Photography and Other Media in the Nineteenth Century Towards an Integrated History» نوشتهٔ Nicoletta Leonardi (editor); Simone Natale (editor)، منتشرشده توسط نشر The Pennsylvania State University Press در سال 2018. این کتاب در فرمت pdf، زبان انگلیسی ارائه شده است.
In this volume, leading scholars of photography and mediaexamine photography's vital role in the evolution of media andcommunication in the nineteenth century.
In the first half of the nineteenth century, the introduction oftelegraphy, the development of a cheaper and more reliable postalservice, the rise of the mass-circulation press, and the emergenceof the railway dramatically changed the way people communicated andexperienced time and space. Concurrently, photography developed asa medium that changed how images were produced and circulated. Yet,for the most part, photography of the era is studied outside thefield of media history. The contributors to this volume challengethose established disciplinary boundaries as they programmaticallyexplore the intersections of photography and "new media" during aperiod of fast-paced change. Their essays look at the emergence andearly history of photography in the context of broader changes inthe history of communications; the role of the nascent photographicpress in photography's infancy; and the development of photographictechniques as part of a broader media culture that included themass-consumed novel, sound recording, and cinema.
Featuring essays by noteworthy historians in photography andmedia history, this discipline-shifting examination of thecommunication revolution of the nineteenth century is an essentialaddition to the field of media studies.
