Anna Devlin can't wait to tell her husband, Martin, administrator of desert colony planet Phoenix, that she is pregnant. But sudden, violent revolution sends the couple fleeing into the desert. A mob pursues. In the ensuing battle, Anna loses her baby, her husband, and her mind. She is mad, but she survives.
