A collection of essays. The first three (pp. 7-218) deal with Sabbatarians and Judaizers in Russia, referring, also, to the persecutions suffered by the prominent Judaizer Nikolai Ilyin (1809-1890) and other Sabbatarians and Judaizers. The other essays deal mainly with philosemitism and antisemitism among the Russian intelligentsia and nobility (including the royal family). Touches on antisemitism in the tsarist army. Dwells on the struggle conducted by the writer and amateur scientist Mikhail Filippov (1858-1903) against the ritual murder accusation and against antisemitism in general. Relates, also, to the antisemitic writer Ieronim Yasinskii (1850-1931) and to the antisemitism of the chess master Alekhine.
