On the Feminist Philosophy of Gillian Howie : Materialism and Mortality
معرفی کتاب «On the Feminist Philosophy of Gillian Howie : Materialism and Mortality» نوشتهٔ Victoria Browne; Daniel Whistler، منتشرشده توسط نشر Bloomsbury Academic در سال 2016. این کتاب در فرمت pdf، زبان انگلیسی ارائه شده است.
"Over three decades, Gillian Howie wrote at the forefront of philosophy and critical theory, before her untimely death in 2013. This interdisciplinary collection uses her writings to explore the productive, yet often resistant, interrelationship between feminism and critical theory, examining the potential of Howie's particular form of materialism. The contributors also bring to this debate a serious engagement with Howie's late turn towards philosophies of mortality, therapy and 'living with dying'. The volume considers how differently embodied subjects are positioned within public institutions, discourses and spaces, and the role of philosophy, art, film, photography, and literature, in facing situations such as sexual oppression and life-limiting illness."--Bloomsbury Publishing. This collection of critical writings uses her writings-particularly Between Feminism and Materialism: A Question of Method (2010), Deleuze and Spinoza: Aura of Expressionism (2002), her popular co-edited collection Third Wave Feminism: a Critical Exploration (2004), as well as various other contributions-as springboards to a consideration of the productive yet often resistant interrelationship between feminism and critical theory. The contributors also bring to this debate a serious consideration of Howie's late turn towards philosophies of death, life-limiting illness and therapy at stake in this volume, therefore, are the roles of concepts such as mortality, embodiment, alienation and dialectic in thinking through new forms of feminism and new forms of philosophy.
