A good compendium of Greek myths all in one cover. This book will give one a very good idea and sampling of Greek myths. Useful for getting a "taste" for the kinds of tales mostly known from the ancient Greeks. Also a good background read for the new testament, as the new testament was written in a Hellenized mediterranean. (Yes even Judaism was to some extent slightly to moderately Hellenized, though more so diaspora Judaism than Palestinian). Lowell Edmunds accepts this variation as the driving force in its longevity and popularity. Refraining from seeking for an original form of the myth, Edmunds relates the changes in content in the myth to changes in meaning, eschewing the notion that one particular version can be set as standard.
