The desire to teach and the fulfillment attained from teaching have again prompted us to produce a work that we hope is both useful and enlightening to our readers. The field of oculoplastic surgery has grown and evolved to include all aspects of eyelid and facial plastic surgery. Our literature must now reflect the advancements and - rection of our field. Knowledge of anatomy, the basis of all surgery and the root of surgical principles and techniques, supports our ab- ity to deliver the highest quality care to our patients. We have therefore combined text and diagrams and supplemented them with DVD digital video technology to enable those who wish to perform this surgery the best possible instruction and preparation. We hope that our attempts to accomplish this will be rewarded by the use of this material by colleagues and the acknowledgment of our unique and logical progression in the field of eyelid and facial pl- tic surgery. The previous volume in this series covered reconstructive eyelid surgery. This volume presents many aspects of facial cosmetic surgery, including blepharoplasty, endoscopic forehead surgery, rhytidectomy, and other related procedures. Purpose:The authors wish to arm their readers with state-of-the-art techniques regarding facial, lid, and brow procedures. The passage of knowledge is always a worthy objective and their efforts are replete with wisdom; nevertheless, this truncated book lacks sufficient depth to fully inform the reader.
Audience:The contributors are mainly ophthalmic surgeons who have an interest in oculoplastic surgery. Although the book is not specifically designed for any particular group of physicians, it would undoubtedly best serve ophthalmic residents and those surgeons wishing to touch upon these topics.
Features:Through the 11 chapters, a concordant theme emphasizing anatomy is presented; indeed, the DVD and anatomical discussions in the book shine the most brilliantly. The remainder of the book delves into surgical procedures of the forehead and brow; face lifting in general with a subsection on the mid-face lift; upper and lower blepharoplasty; and ancillary procedures involving laser, botox, lip and soft tissue augmentation.
Assessment:The laudable goal of expanding the horizons of the authors' colleagues has been achieved with this book and DVD. However, the basic nature of this book requires additional didactic guidance if the reader is to proceed with these surgical explorations.
