Description:Frank Noyes, one of the pre-eminent leaders in the world on knee injuries and disorders, has guided the creation of this wonderful book on the surgery, rehabilitation, and clinical outcomes of specific knee disorders. The book includes a bonus CD of rehabilitation and surgical techniques as well as an access code for a searchable online version.
Purpose:Each chapter reflects the writings and teachings of those in the scientific and clinical disciplines required for the modern treatment of afflictions of the knee joint. Dr. Noyes has challenged each chapter author to support the regimens with the best evidence available on both techniques and outcomes. More generally, the primary goal is to present a go-to, easy to use reference on clinical disorders of the knee.
Audience:Orthopedic subspecialists, generalists, and residents in training will all benefit from reading and using this book as a key reference for knee problems. Dr. Noyes is a leading researcher and clinician on a broad range of knee pathologies. Beyond his own knowledge and cadre of experts from Cincinnati, Dr. Noyes has also invited an impressive group of contributors from across the country for this in-depth book.
Features:The book covers a myriad of topics from ligament and meniscus injuries to cartilage restoration and patellofemoral problems. There is also a strong focus on rehabilitation and outcomes. It should be noted that the book does not address adult reconstructive techniques such as osteotomies, joint resurfacing, or arthroplasty. The book is easy to navigate, with pages in each section marked with color-coded edging. The figures are of the highest quality and the CD with the surgical and rehabilitation techniques is a wonderful bonus. The web-based version allows free access anywhere the user has a computer!
Assessment:While there are a number of books on knee disorders, this one is unique in its scientific foundation and its overall philosophy guided by Frank Noyes, a world-renowned scientist and leader in the field. This is a great reference and will be a welcome addition to the library of orthopedic surgeons who include ligamentous reconstruction, meniscus work, patellofemoral problems, and cartilage restoration in their practice. I am sure it will be well read by our residents in our academic orthopedic library.
