The 10 full papers, 3 invited papers and 2 invited keynotes address the whole spectrum of Grid networks and cover various topics such as authorisation infrastructure for on-demand Grid and network resource provisioning, access control requirements for Grid and cloud computing systems, business models, accounting and billing concepts in Grid-aware networks, multiple resource scheduling in e-science applications, percolation-based replica discovery in peer-to-peer grid infrastructures, GridFTP GUI, alarms service for monitoring multi-domain Grid networks, Grid computing to explore the computational resources of the settop boxes, open source cloud computing systems based on large scale high performance, dynamic network services, WDM ring networks, architecture to integrate broadband access networks and wireless Grids, implementation of random linear network coding using NVIDIA's CUDA toolkit, collaboration in a wireless Grid innovation testbed by virtual consortium as well as challenges for social control in wireless mobile Grids Front Matter....Pages - Designing 21st Century Communications: Architecture, Services, Technology, and Facilities....Pages 1-6 Front Matter....Pages 7-7 Authorisation Infrastructure for On-Demand Grid and Network Resource Provisioning....Pages 9-18 On the Definition of Access Control Requirements for Grid and Cloud Computing Systems....Pages 19-26 Business Models, Accounting and Billing Concepts in Grid-Aware Networks....Pages 27-34 Front Matter....Pages 35-35 Network Centered Multiple Resource Scheduling in e-Science Applications....Pages 37-44 Percolation-Based Replica Discovery in Peer-to-Peer Grid Infrastructures....Pages 45-56 GridFTP GUI: An Easy and Efficient Way to Transfer Data in Grid....Pages 57-66 Front Matter....Pages 67-67 An Alarms Service for Monitoring Multi-domain Grid Networks....Pages 69-78 Grid Anywhere: An Architecture for Grid Computing Able to Explore the Computational Resources of the Set-Top Boxes....Pages 79-88 The Open Cloud Testbed: Supporting Open Source Cloud Computing Systems Based on Large Scale High Performance, Dynamic Network Services....Pages 89-97 Front Matter....Pages 99-99 Designing Power-Efficient WDM Ring Networks....Pages 101-108 Energy Efficiency in Thin Client Solutions....Pages 109-116 Front Matter....Pages 117-117 Architecture to Integrate Broadband Access Networks and Wireless Grids....Pages 119-130 Implementation of Random Linear Network Coding Using NVIDIA’s CUDA Toolkit....Pages 131-138 Collaboration in a Wireless Grid Innovation Testbed by Virtual Consortium....Pages 139-146 Challenges for Social Control in Wireless Mobile Grids....Pages 147-154 Back Matter....Pages - The GridNets conference is an annual international meeting that provides a focused and highly interactive forum where researchers and technologists have an opportunity to present and discuss leading research, developments, and future directions in grid networking. The goal of this event is to serve as both the premier conference prese- ing best grid networking research and a forum where new concepts can be introduced and explored. After the great success of the Second International Conference on Networks for Grid Applications in Beijing, China, which was held during October 8–9, 2008, the next event was scheduled for Athens in 2009. The 2009 event featured two invited keynote speakers, ten reviewed papers, and three invited papers. The program was supplemented by forums on three key areas––a workshop on Green Grids, a workshop on Wireless Grids, and a workshop on Optical Grids. Next year's event is currently being planned, and it will incorporate multiple new important emerging topics related to grid networks.
