While "corridor houses" such as the House of the Tiles at Lerna have provoked widespread discussion about the origins of social stratification in Greece, few settlements of the Early Bronze Age (ca. 3100 to 2000 B.C.) have been thoroughly excavated. This important study integrates the presentation and analysis of the archaeological evidence from a single settlement that flourished on Tsoungiza Hill in the Nemea Valley from the Final Neolithic until the end of the Early Helladic period. The first section details the stratigraphy, architecture, deposits, and ceramics of each of the five major periods represented. The second section contains specialist reports on all aspects of material culture including figurines and ornaments, textiles and crafts, metal analyses, chipped and ground stone, and faunal and palaeobotanical remains. The focus is on Tsoungiza Hill in the Nemea Valley, Greece, and two volumes are planned to present results of the Nemea Valley Archaeological Project (NVAP) sponsored by Bryn Mawr College, working under the auspices of the American School of Classical Studies at Athens. This first volume and the projected second encompass work done in the most recent excavations (1984-86), as well as previously unpublished work accomplished by James Penrose Harland in the 1920s, and a 1981-82 project sponsored by the U. of California Berkeley. Pullen specifies that the manuscript was completed in July 2006, and therefore does not include some notable work done since then. Volume 1 reports on the Early Bronze Age levels on Tsoungiza Hill. The second volume will present the Early and Late Mycenaean remains. The volume is massive (9.5x12.5"). Distribution in North America is by The David Brown Book Co.
