Natural Language Information Processing: A Computer Grammar of English and Its Applications presents for the first time a relatively complete grammar of English in computer readable form. The grammar is in use in a large system for the analysis of scientific articles. The book also introduces the technique of information-formatting, the use of the grammar with additions special to a field of application for converting the infomation in documents of the field into a database. This volume describes the automatic information-formatting of free-text medical records and other applications of the grammar and language processing system.Naomi Sager is director of The Linguistic String Project at New York University. She has a degree in electrical engineering from Columbia University and a Ph.D. from the University of Pennsylvania. Dr. Sager worked in the electronics department of Sloan-Kettering Institute and has been teaching computer analysis of language at New York University. Since 1965 she has directed research projects in the computer processing of language and information.
