In this small contribution to the "History of Indian Literature" the present writer has confined herself to a survey of those Sanskrit works on music and dance that have been published. A description of the manuscript material would go far beyond the scope of this outline. 1 A first check of the available catalogues of manuscripts reveals that hundreds of musicological works in Sanskrit are spread all over India, stored in numerous government libraries and private collections. When the New Catalogus Catalogorum will have reached the r of raga and the s of sangita, which are the key""Words to most of the musicological titles, an incredible number of music manuscripts will come to light. It is to be hoped that by that time the preservation and accessibility of manuscripts will have improved due to a better co-ordination of the activities. 2 Emmie Te Nijenhuis. Includes Index. Bibliography: P. [42]-48.
