معرفی کتاب «موسیقی و ژست؛ ویرایش شده توسط آنتونی گریتین» (با عنوان لاتین MUSIC AND GESTURE; ED. BY ANTHONY GRITTEN) نوشتهٔ Elaine King, Anthony Gritten (editor)، منتشرشده توسط نشر Ashgate Publishing; Routledge در سال 2006. این کتاب در فرمت pdf، زبان انگلیسی ارائه شده است.

"This volume showcases key theoretical ideas and practical considerations in the growing area of scholarship on musical gesture. The book constructs and explores the relations between music and gesture from a range of differing perspectives, identifying theoretical approaches and examining the nature of certain types of gesture in musical performance. The twelve chapters in this volume are organized into a heuristic progression from theory to practice, from essay to case study. Theoretical considerations about the interpretation of musical gestures are identified and phrased in terms of semiotics, the mimetic hypothesis, concepts of musical force, immanence, quotation and topic, and the work of musical gestures. The lives of musical gestures in performance are revealed through engaging with their rhythmic properties as well as inquiring into the breathing of pianists, the nature of clarinettists' bodily movements, and the physical acts and personae of individual artists, specifically Keith Jarrett and Robbie Williams. The reader is encouraged to listen to the various resonances and tensions between the chapters, including the importance given to bodies, processes, motions, expressions, and interpretations of musical gesture. The book will be of significance to musicologists, theorists, semioticians, analysts, composers and performers, as well as scholars working in different research communities with an interest in the study of gesture."--Provided by publisher Cover 1 Half Title 2 Dedication 3 Title Page 4 Copyright Page 5 Contents 6 List of Figures 8 List of Tables 11 List of Music Examples 12 Notes on Contributors 16 Introduction 20 Studying Musical Gesture 21 Overview of Music and Gesture 22 Acknowledgements 26 References 26 1 A Theory of Musical Gesture and its Application to Beethoven and Schubert 28 Conclusion 45 Notes 45 References 49 2 Emotive Gesture in Music and its Contraries 51 Gestural Types Represented in Music 51 Musical Representations of Gesture in the Context of Other Musically Representable Movements 57 Molecular Gesture and Gestural Schemata 65 Notes 70 References 70 3 Hearing, Feeling, Grasping Gestures 72 Theoretical Background: The Mimetic Hypothesis 73 Mimetic Participation in Daily Life and in Musical Experience 74 Grasping Gestures Within and Across Modalities 77 Robert Hatten and the Mimetic Hypothesis 78 Hearing, Feeling, Comprehending, Conceiving and Grasping ‘Gestures’ 83 Notes 84 References 85 4 Musical Gestures and Musical Forces: Evidence from Music-Theoretical Misunderstandings 88 Two Theorists 91 A Historical Music Theorist 91 A Contemporary Theorist 92 Five Analyses 93 A Pattern Map 93 ‘Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star’ 94 ‘My Country ’Tis of Thee’ or ‘God Save the Queen/King’ 94 Chopin, Impromptu in A Flat Major, Op. 29 95 Bach, ‘Bourée’ from the English Suite in A Minor 97 Haydn, Piano Sonata in D Major, Hob XVI:19 98 Conclusion 99 Note 100 References 100 5 ‘Plays Guitar Without Any Hands’: Musical Movement and Problems of Immanence 102 Objects of Immanence: A General Ontological Position 103 Case Study: ‘Funky Worm’ 105 Immanence and Supervenience 108 Semiotics as a Descriptive Framework 110 Cognitive Science as an Explanatory Framework 112 Conclusion 113 Notes 114 References 116 6 Mahler’s Military Gesture: Musical Quotation as Proto-Topic 118 References 129 7 Drift 131 I 131 II 134 III 135 IV 141 V 143 VI 145 Acknowledgements 146 References 146 8 Musical Rhythm: Motion, Pace and Gesture 153 The Long and Short of Musical Rhythm 153 Walking, Running and Music 156 Coda: Not all ‘Musical Gestures’ are ‘Musical’ Gestures 161 Acknowledgements 164 Notes 165 References 165 9 Supporting Gestures: Breathing in Piano Performance 169 Respiratory Rhythm in Violin Performance 170 Physical Movements in Piano Performance 171 Physical and Musical Gestures in Piano Performance 172 Pilot Study: Breathing in Piano Performance 173 The Three Pieces 174 Breathing and Tempo 176 Breathing and Music-Structural Gestures 178 Breathing and Physical Movements 182 Conclusion 185 Acknowledgements 188 Notes 188 References 189 10 Origins and Functions of Clarinettists’ Ancillary Gestures 192 Quantitative Analysis of Ancillary Gestures 194 Production and Repeatability 196 Rocking Movements 196 Movement Standing and Seated 198 Standard, Expressive and Immobilized 199 Accurate Performance Comparisons 201 Some Musical Considerations 203 Summary: Ancillary Gestures at Different Movement Levels 204 The Perceptual Significance of Clarinettists’ Ancillary Gestures 205 Tension Judgements 207 Phrasing Judgements 210 Summary: The Perception of Ancillary Gestures 212 Conclusion 212 Acknowledgements 213 Notes 214 References 214 11 Listening in the Gaze: The Body in Keith Jarrett’s Solo Piano Improvisations 219 Expression and Jazz Aesthetics 220 Ritual and Myth 221 Ballads 223 Grooves 227 Acknowledgements 231 Notes 232 References 233 12 ‘She’s the one’: Multiple Functions of Body Movement in a Stage Performance by Robbie Williams 235 The Significance of Movement in Musical Communication 235 Origins 235 Contemporary Life 236 Mind and Body in Performance 237 The Pop Performer’s Tasks 239 Robbie Williams 240 ‘She’s the one’ 240 Overview of the Stage Performance 242 Discussion of the Stage Performance 247 Robbie the Narrator 247 Robbie the Star 248 Robbie the Manipulator 248 Robbie as Coordinator 248 Robbie as Responder 248 Robbie in the Groove 249 Robbie’s Intimate Self 249 Conclusion 249 Notes 250 References 251 Index 254 Introduction / Anthony Gritten and Elaine King A theory of musical gesture and its application to Beethoven and Schubert / Robert S.
