We are honoured to present this collection of selected papers from the International Conference on Mixing and Crystallization, held at the Tioman Island, Malaysia in April, 1998. We are grateful to the editorial board comprising five eminent researchers in the field of mixing and crystallization for their thoughtful review and suggestions. In order to make this book as current as possible some of the papers have been thoroughly revised, which caused some delay in bringing out this edited version. We received necessary support from the Institute of Post Graduate Studies and Research, the University of Malaya and the Special Research Centre for Multiphase Processes, and the University of Newcastle, Australia in organizing this conference. This book covers the latest developments in the fields of mixing and crystallization. It shows how mixing processes affect the crystallization process in general, and provides solutions to some specific cases in particular. Different mixing strategies and devices have been discussed with a particular reference to the crystallization process. The book also covers the state-of-the-art measurement techniques available for mixing intensity, nucleation, crystal growth and size distribution. The articles have been contributed by the most respected researchers in this area, and cover the frontier areas of research and development in the mixing and crystallization processes. This is unique compared to other books in this field which do not emphasize the interrelationship of the two processes. This book is a selection of papers presented at the International Conference on 'Mixing and Crystallization' held at Tioman Island, Malaysia, in 1998.
